What kind of sheep need an atheist convention anyway?

On March 24, 2012, there's going to be a secular gathering called the Reason Rally at D.C.
Just news I wanted to announce.

I loved your last comment about fariries and soulbrothers. Ill remeber that a long, long time. Thank you.

On the "groping" issue, I probably should set that straight. I belatedly found where I read that- Watson's boycott declaration article: "More and more men touching me without permission at conferences." So my memory was flawed, it seems- both in that she didn't mention the word "groping-" just "touching-" and didn't mention other women experiencing it, just her... Now I have to roll my eyes at myself... *facepalm*

I can't believe that she made herself a victim under circumstances that she, herself originally described. I was a very attractive young girl at one time (much more than RW), and yes, I occasionally got hit on. no. I got hit on a lot. Most of the gentlemen whom I wasn't interested in, calmly backed away. We still had conversation though. There were a few very pushy exceptions though, but they were the minority.

OH MY GOD - YOU NAILED IT with the groupthink remark. I had a huge backlog of podcasts to listen to. In the last few days, heard SGU Episode 312 - it's fucking groupthink! No-one would dare criticise Watson.
This entire thing is DISGUSTING.
I'd love to go to an atheist convention. I'm a 49 year old woman, and I used to call myself a feminist. I don't anymore because I've run into too many people like Rebecca Watson. I've even met men like Rebecca Watson. I worked for years in a victims assistance agency, and people like RW minimise the experiences of GENUINE victims. It makes me sick. I've worked with Domestic Violence, Rape, Child sexual abuse....and have been a victim myself. RW makes me want to puke.

ikr? It's sad that you have dealt with so many cases of abuse, neglect, and assault, but normal people strike up conversations over coffee and form relationships. Maybe his timing and location were off, but he politely accepted her refusal and nothing more happened. Originally, I would support her when she says, "Don't do that," but with one caveat, "Don't do that to me, Rebecca Watson. I create schisms in the atheist community when I feel vaguely uncomfortable."

"I might want to talk to a girl...You might wanna come up to my room and have a cup of coffee?." Well we know one girl you won't be asking that question!

Yes, Rebecca Watson. She made that perfectly clear.

Actually, my ugliness prevents me from getting to display my wonderful personality very often...
