Email messaging and format are key to high web survey response rates. Targeting and branding email content increases the likelihood that emails will be read and acted upon, while analyzing email content before sending can help surveyors avoid spam filters. Response rates can also see an increase by sending both HTML and plain text emails. Using MIME technology to send both ensures that as many recipients as possible will see the attractive HTML version of an email, while those recipients who cannot accept HTML emails still see the plain text version. Scheduled and automated reminder emails further increase response rates by as much as 42%. Reminders can reach unresponsive recipients or persons who partially completed the survey but never finished.
Response rates to online surveys are important because a larger sample size means more reliable data, which leads to better, surer decision making.
