Mildy modified 2.3 turbo engine in an 88 Ford Mustang hatchback. .60/.63 T3 turbo; ported head, ported intakes, aftermarket exhaust log, 3" exhaust, Powerstroke intercooler. Finally blew the engine a few years later when it was substantially more modified (and much faster).

  • @supastaa88, They were SVO's not SHO's. The SHO's were in Taurus' they were the Yamaha engines.

  • That's what I said at first, but the old 4 banger stangs were light and quick, especially when you slap a good turbo on em.

    Plus, they're dirt cheap.

Given, I liked my 07 GT/CS quite a bit more (the newer ones are roomier and actually comforatble), but they WILL surprise you.

The old Mustang SHOs were 2.3 turbo 4s, and those things are easily made into beasts.

  • im running almost 200 hp out of my 1984 murcury capri rs turbo it doesnt have an intercooler on it. there has only been a couple mods on it also like a .020 bore and upgraded pistons and rods and thats pretty much it

  • @popatittyshit merkur xr4ti came with 175hp with no intercooler and the mustang svo with intercoolers were pushing 205hp....thats pretty impressive for a late 80s technology single cam 8valve..please stop

  • @popatittyshit the 88-ish years.. change exhaust and air filter, some minor no parts required adjustments = 200+ HP.. diesels suck.. of course all engines are nothing but an air pump... and just so you know, my car has no intercooler, and is sitting at 175hp... STOCK I had a 91 talon... 2.0 four popper.. ity bity turbo you never even noticed doin its thing.. 190HP STOCK.. but it didnt pull nearly as hard as the 2.3T did.. i never knew turbo lag or acceleration till i drove the XR4Ti..

  • @Lynium lol just so you know the 2.3's that had intercoolers were barely pushing 175 stock, and there wasnt one pushing over 200.

and not gonna lie, no engine can love 30 psi all day unless it is diesel. either way there is a single cam 1.6L honda pushing 800 to the wheels on 40 psi, and b series can do at least 1k at that boost level

  • @supastaa88 SVO bro. a SHO is a taurus with a yami engine. blue printed engines, a bitch to get parts for, and a bitch to work on

  • nice to see someone turboing a 4 cylinder instead of swapping it out for a v8

  • Is that an 85mph speedo? Im no ford guru

  • @srvblues00 okay cool!!!!! I totally gotta do this!!!

  • @classicrockonly Quite the opposite.. a turbo works on pressure differential, so if you minimize pressure in the exhaust pipe (within reason, of course - don't use 5" pipe!) it will help it spool faster and flow easier.

  • @srvblues00 ok cool :) and the 3" pipe from turbo back won't make the turbo lose its effectiveness?
