i never put AIC in grunge...why would a grunge band be on the Clash of the Titans tour with Anthrax, Megadeth, etc....They were Alice in fucking Chains, and they were the best!

aic is great but jerry cantrell is weak on guitars, kurt cobain was much powerful player.

@Jemdatar No, you're right. They're all very different. If you go by what some others have said, it's was originally used as a term to describe that there was no polish on the music and it was very raw and "post-punk" when it first started in the 80's. I think Mark Arm gave an interview about that somewhere. You're right though, it's all rock and roll at the end of the day, and that's all that matters.

But when you really think about it, Alice, pj, nirvana, soundgarden mudhoney and all the rest don't really sound THAT much alike as individual bands, I think the world freaked out at the fact so many good bands came from one area at the same time and had to classify them any way they could. Not that it fucking matters, its all bullshit anyway the whole genre-subgenre thing, its all rock and roll at the end of the day :P.

@MissusFingerBottom Definitely! The entire Facelift album is a "Greatest Hits" in and of itself, IMO. ;)

@MichaelGrah The term "grunge" was floating around a lot between fans and bands long before record companies found out about it and appropriated it for their money-making machine. It's too bad, too. =\

In my opinion grunge was just a label coined by record companies to gain more money. Whatever you wish to call it though, it fucking rocks.
Long live good music!
