1. you can hold your back hand where you like as long as it doesnt cover target.
2. its much more about bladework, like someone said it doesnt matter how fast/slow, how neat you are as long as you get your point on.

well footwork can help someone that has worse bladeword then someone else

Keep your weight equally distributed on both legs rather then primarily on one. When you're pushing against your opponent's blade and they're pushing against your blade, disengage and hit them as quickly as possible. Keep a good deal of distance between you and your opponent until you attack and hit them.
I fence foil and I know most of these terms. Rather then the French words, I use "En Garde", "Ready", "Fence". Keep knees bent and don't get too cocky if you get a touch. That's all. ^^

to the guy who said bladework isnt important- if i can parry faster than you can attack, i dont care how fast you can run on the strip, i can take my time getting to you, and you wont be able to get me

Crap, doubles, sorry.

Anyway, nice video. The judge is cute, at least. You should try electric. And you should also try, like everyone said, to hit more often. Don't hold your waist, though. It's covering target. Hold your back hand down and slightly behind you, however it's comfortable. Holding it up in the air is old school and not effective anymore.

-is appalled- I'm a competitive fencer. Bladework is a HUGE part of fencing! Footwork, not so much, although it does have to be very quick. How would you expect anyone to even GET touches by hitting target if no bladework was used? Every action would award no points, because both fencers would just attack, again and again, and it would be simultaneous, again and again.
okay, well you should be holding your hand out in the air behind your backs, and when you lunge, your off hand should reach back to even out your weight so you can recover and retreat more easily,
