Update: On April 22, 2011, Team Sapsucker set the North American record for most bird species seen or heard in 24 hours: 264 species!

The Cornell Lab's Team Sapsucker is heading to Texas
for their Big Day quest to raise more than $250,000 for bird conservation. On the best day in April (depending on weather) they'll attempt to break the national all-time record for most birds found in 24 hours.

Raise the stakes, spur them on, and help us advance critical conservation efforts for the birds. Please pledge any amount per species, or make a flat donation. Thank you!

  • Dang! Alot of dif bird species. I counted a total of 51 dif in my area and not in 24 hrs.

  • Awesome...dang thats alot of birds let alone dif species.

  • @RobbytheLion They do, and living right next to the rice fields my back yard is teaming with birds of all sorts. I have heard, identified, and seen these birds and some that I really didnt recognize. It is really awesome here. Happy birding everyone.

  • Great video quality!

  • @julbear Every April 22, hundreds of birders travel to the Rio Grande Valley to participate in a great competition to see who spots the most bird species. However, it's more of enjoying the birds than only trying to see who spots the most species.

The Cornell lab decided to have people pledge a certain amount of money for every bird the team saw. In the end they actually saw the most!

  • Beautiful birds! I am proud to be in Texas! During the Big Day in Texas birders will start in the Texas Hill Country, then go to Victoria, then the rice fields, Corpus Christi and Barrier Islands. Let's suppot Conservation Scientists! Learn more at Cornell dot Edu

  • Uh... When IS the big day exactly????

  • Wow, I'm happy if I can find 15 or so species in an outing!

  • Everyday is a big day in TX! 28 species in 75min this AM and that was a little low because of strange weather patterns. BH in Portland

  • Hey I know a few of those! we have some of these species in CO too. I bet ricefields attract dozens of wetland species, my favorites.
