With one out in the top of the 3rd inning of Sunday's series finale with Louisiana-Lafayette, the Troy Trojans recorded two, three and then a fourth out - one of the rarest feats in baseball.
In the third inning, with a pair of runners in scoring position, Troy LHP Shane McCain got ULL's Greg Fontenot to hit a fly ball to center that was caught by a diving Daniel Peterson in the outfield for the second out.
Peterson then threw home, but the throw was cut by the first baseman, Logan Pierce. Pierce threw to third baseman Tyler Hannah, who threw to shortstop Adam Bryant, who then tagged out the runner attempting to tag from second base for the third out.
Lastly, Bryant went to third base at the urging of the dugout and appealed that the runner at third left early when tagging up to go home. The third base umpire ruled he left early for the fourth out. The situation was a first for many in attendance, including the coaching staff.
This was a Triple play to make the 4th out. Amazing.

Four outs are better than three. Go Troy!

For those that don't appreciate what this means, the advantageous fourth out takes a run off the board. If they had just stopped at the third out (the runner being tagged between second and third) the run would count.
