Video of Hatsumi Sensei at age 60 performing some of the exercises of the Ryutai Undo Ho (Dragon Body Stretching and Movement Exercises) during the 1992 Taikai in Gran Canaria, Spain. In Taijutsu the flexibility and health of the legs is of the greatest importance. At 80 years old and climbing Hatsumi Sensei still does an hour of natural exercises every day and goes for walks. This is an inspiration to us all!

  • could anyone tell me which taikai/seminar this video is from? thanks

  • @dkrto This was at the 92 Taikai hosted by Pedro in Gran Canaria, Spain.

  • That's amazing, at 60 !

  • Hatsumi Sensei is 80 now with almost zero decrease in ability! Many people simply do not understand what he is teaching. They can not see past fighting techniques so they will never understand his teaching. Correct martial arts training should make you a healthier, more balanced complete human being. All "Bu" and no "Do" or too much "Do" and no "Bu". Neither of these is an ideal way to train to secure a victory in your life. "Budo" together surrounded by a large heart!

    BUFU IKKAN!

  • Those who study forms of traditional Japanese medicine and bodywork may recognize these exercises as "Makko Ho" or "Keiraku Chosei Ho". Various exercises to maintain the health of your muscles (Kinniku), Shinkei (nerves), and Keiraku (meridians).

  • @yotsumedojo I agree with you. I love the style even though my main arts are the Chinese "internal" systems, Silat and some rare European reconstructed styles. I can see the internal principles very clearly in Hatsumi Sensei and some of the better practitioners. But I agree, many followers lack the conditioning and the concept of flow. I hope more will focus on these aspects because the art has a lot of potential and health benefits.

  • thanks for sharing this video, we do all these flexibility excersises as our warm up at our dojo.

  • @yotsumedojo

Sounds healthy and balanced to me.

Thanks for the clip I found it quite amazing that he can do that at 60. Not to mention at 80.
