I got into UVa and am currently a Freshman at WM!!
The two schools first of all are as similar as they are the same. They are both public, so you might have some larger classes as an underclassmen (I imagine this might be more of an issue at UVa) and you will of course have phenomenal professors that will teach you better than anyone, even though they might not ALL be famous researchers. They are both phenomenal schools and will open doors. Neither is better, just different. I would choose WM!
I go to UVA and I have to say that I love it. UVA definitely has the reputation of being preppy, pretentious, and elitist, and there are a lot of people like that. But it's really easy to find easy going, awesome people who completely defy that stereotype. I chose UVA over W&M and VT because W&M is way too small and VT is too far away for me. If I hadn't gotten into UVA I think I would have gone to Tech, or maybe even JMU, but not W&M; it didn't fit me, but it might be perfect for you
I went to William & Mary, and I have to say it was a really great school, both academically and socially. It is a small school and doesn't have as many fields of study as a place like UVA or VT, but I felt like the students had a really great sense of community.
UVA and W&M are, I think, similar in academic quality, but UVA might be slightly more prestigious, since it's better known. VT is not as highly ranked academically, but it does have one of the best engineering schools in the country.
@ncsujhs VT is a much newer school which started out in agriculture and has grown and developed to a huge university since. UVA is actually ranked higher than W&M and is a bigger school. W&M has the most presidents that attended, next to Harvard. I would go with W&M if you're looking at colleges..
For people deciding between VA Tech, UVA, and W&M, could you please elaborate on the above, where you say that VT and W&M are "VERY diff. schools culturally"? And where does UVA fit in? Thanks.
Well VT is much more hard-science based, although it's now sort of a typical, well-ranked public university, with anything you want to study. William and Mary (which is higher-ranked overall) would probably be a better choice, academically, for liberal arts(if you wanted to go to law school one day, etc) but there are plenty "techical" options as well. If you wanted to be an engineer or an architect, VT would be the better option. VERY diff. schools culturally, so it's just a matter of pref.

What excellent looking schools. I'm so envious of Virginia to have institutions like these, as well as Virginia Tech!
