Red Light District 16

Flashback #5:

I took Nick straight to my house. I would have taken him back to his house, but he actually lives far from me. I dont have a car so I have to walk everywhere I go. It takes about an hour or so of walking to get back to his house and honestly, I dont think I could make it that long without scolding him.

I opened the door to my apartment and shoved him inside. I barely waited for the door to slam shut before I yelled, "What the hell were you thinking?"

Nick paid little attention to my yelling. He was walking around the small room and soaking up all that was inside of it. I didnt think it was anything special, but I guess it was different than what Nick was used to.

"Nicholas! Are you even listening to me?" I shouted one last time.

He only slightly turned his head to answer. "Yes, yes." His voice was level and calm. "You are trying to yell at me for ditching school and following you out here." He turned completely in my direction and said. "Its not as if I didnt know what I was doing when I did it." He looked away and continued to admire the old, rundown building.

I held a hand to my mouth and wiped my face. What was I supposed to do? I hardly knew what to say. I decided that it was best to not raise my tone to him if he hadnt to me. "Then why would you do it?" I could tell that Nick had to bite his bottom lip to hold in whatever he was really thinking. Apparently, his real motivation for all this was one that he wouldnt want to be found. He took so long to think of an answer that it had come off as if he refused to answer. I repeated myself once again. This time it came in a harsher tone. Nick flinched for a moment. He still hadnt come up with an answer suitable to tell me. I was losing patients quickly.

Nick saw that I was and sat on the couch. His eyes looked up at me. He was waiting for me to join him. I took in a deep sign and I slumpt beside him. "Joseph, dont get mad at me but... I just wanted to... follow you."

"Well, I already got that part." I retorted. "But why would you ditch school to do that?"

Nick twiddled his finger in his hands. "Because." His voice was low.

"Nicholas, youll have to do better than that."

"Because..." He twiddled faster. "Because I like you!"

"Whoa! What?" I was at a loss for words. Nick studied my reaction and lowered his head. He felt shame in his homosexual crush. I dont know where he would have gotten the idea that I was gay, but it was true. Nick was certainly much younger than myself, but I couldnt control myself at the moment. I jumped onto of him. It must have been a surprise of joy for Nick. He kissed me back, though, I think it was his first kiss.
