Ijtihad; My Journey to Islam By Anne Marie Elderkin

Salam Alaikoam

When I came to Islam I discovered it had been with me all along.

My journey in unraveling the mysteries within Islam and all Mankind is under way and it will be interesting what is revealed about all of us and everything.

For clearity though I got my 1st. look at the Quran when one was given to me in 1992 and Surah 99 called to me.

I have be in awe of some of what I have found and some of what I have found has dismayed me.

What is so overwhelming at times is the energy spent on negative actions and behaviors. Imagine if everyone had tthe skills to deal with our many challenges and for those who are challenged by these tests should have access to excellent and wonderful community support services and networks for us to call on in our time of need.

Overall my outlook for Islam is one with Unity in Diversity and respecting our freedom of choice to choose how we want to express our submission and cooperation with the will of Allah, God, the Creator no matter what religion we may or may not choose. This submission is also about making informed and healthier choices.

As a Child I use to wonder the feilds near my home and sing and pray to Allah, God, the Creator that when I grew up I could help myself, my father, my family, community, nation and World and I believe I can honestly say I think I am finally doing just that. Now Mashallah the Greatest battle I have is not with the World but my own Struggle/Jihad with personal issues.

My prayers go out to each of you as you address your struggles in positive caring and compassionate ways.

Mashallah I know and believe we are all worth the effort.

This qoute discribes in effect my 1st thoughts on Islam when I wrote on a Islamic Traditions Class Exam question, "What do you see for Islam?" My response was; "I see something wonderful though not sure how or when." or at least to that effect.

Though sadden and disappointed at times the Greater Good in doing positive efforts is winning out over all.
