Beijing criticises US on human rights record - 21 Oct 08

One of the big foreign policy challenges facing the next US president is how to handle China.

Trade has grown exponentially between the two nations but bilateral ties remain strained.

The US accuses Beijing of locking up political dissidents and brutally suppressing a separatist movement by Uighur Muslims.

But China has published its own reports on human rights abuses in the US, saying Washington has been incapable of lifting many African-Americans out of poverty.

In our second of a series of reports examing this fractious relationship, Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng has more.

The same accusations that the US flings at China for human rights abuses and undermining the Tibetans struggle for their freedom is the same thing the US has done for centuries with its Native people. The Lakota tribe has demanded their independence from the US on the basis that the US is illegally occupying their land and has broken all signed treaties, yet the US refuses to acknowledge it or even consider giving them their freedom. Ironic that the US whines about the Tibet issue. Hypocrites .
