Homewood 8 Explore Greenway Sojourn

Eight Homewood elementary school students are participating in the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's first "youth scholarship program," an adventure that enabled them to join the Greenway Sojourn bicycle ride as it pedaled into Pennsylvania yesterday.

My grandfather grew up around Homestead. He said when he was 18 he took a bullet to the shoulder in a race riot on Larimer Avenue. This was 1939 or 1940.

Might have been in East Liberty now that I think of it.

Anyway, that bullet stayed in his shoulder. Because of it, he got out of the army and didnt have to fight in WW2.

My grandpa was in heaven as he made love to all the women whos husbands left for the war. He them all to himself.

The man had a permanent smile.
