i really wish this didn't remind me so much of my high school orchestra. Maybe they got bored of the piece and didn't really get into it.

@kimicansyn The Studio version is not played by orchestra... it's all Rudess' job! :-P (for what I know, but I'm pretty sure about it)

@KDawgAtsu Who needs a percussion section when you have Mike Portnoy? I'm sure they knew that with him playing drums a full percussion section wouldn't be necessary to spend money on.

the orchestra has to be bigger! but it's nice that the band does not perform in the ouverture.

@kimicansyn I don't think they could've done much better than this. All orchestral instruments were recorded in separate tracks by Rudess on the keyboard, in studio.

the timing was off in some portions of the song, not strong in sound in switching tunes of the overture. surely this is not the same ppl who did the studio version. :/
and yet the auditorium may had had some echo? hmmmm.. but still think they could had done better for a live video recording..... ;/

I feel like if they had a more prominent percussion section in the orchestra , it would have sounded so much better. But you gotta give them credit, they not only learned this entire piece but other complex songs like Octavarium and Metropolis too, just think of all the time they had to put into getting used to all those key and time signature changes.
