I was wrong. I actually have a 1:7 twist on my AR-15. It goes to show ya its been sitting in the safe for a while. :) I will definately try out the 77gr. As far as the lethality at 600m, I do not know. I would think it would lose that after 200m. As for weapons that use a 7.62x39mm, I have a Yugoslavian SKS. I've had a lot of fun with that rifle.

I agree 100% on the part about coming over the hill with a squad of men armed with AR15s and seen as a more friendly force. Everyone has the mindset that the ak series of rifles is always the "bad guy gun" but i wouldnt take my chances with a dependible ak, id probly loadout with a AR. Just some feedback :)
I've never owned or fired an AK-47, AK-74, or an AN-94. I hear they are very reliable weapons. Some things to keep in mind if a person was to field an AK-47 in battle. Some of our modern threats no longer field a 7.62x39mm. So, one would have take the enemy's equipment. I personally think that Militias in America should field a 7.62x51mm battle rifle. If we are to fight an enemy, either foreign or demestic, we may not have arty or air support. We need that range!

@sircharles82686 7.62 is a good option except for the weight. With using 77gr otm bullets in my ar I can in theory get that range from an AR-15. In a package that I can carry more ammo.

@sauerOFkraut I have a 1:9 barrel twist which is good for 55gr and 62gr. Its to my understanding that the 1:9 twist won't be fast enough for heavier grain bullets. Have you tried the 77gr? If so, how did it do? Yeah, the weight on an M-14 rig is pretty heavy. A rifleman fielding an AK-47 or an AR-15 may need to carry more ammo to put down the enemy. It depends on a lot of factors. Yeah, I can kill a man with a .22 but I prefer a .30 to do the job.

@sircharles82686 I bought 1:7 twist rifles from the get go, fully indenting to go 77gr. I have used 55gr and 77gr at 600 metes. they both hit the target with some practice. the thing I do not know is what the difference is between the lethality at this distance

hi , actually HORNADY does make 5.45x39 ammo. It is steel cased and loaded w/ their polymer tipped bullets. I would stock up right now and you may want to look into reloading.
