Wait...so it ISNT as simple as just putting a pivot shift light behind the tach cell? You could even go super ghetto and still run the wire to the cigarette lighter! lol

most cars this doesnt work. You have to sand the color off the rear of the gauge face to be able to emit different colors. I did this years ago in my girlfriends zx2. Its super easy, and super cheap! I did the whole thing for less then $10. Hot glue, 12v ebay leds, and 2000 grit sand paper. Its been work the same for years now!
