Rufus Wainwright sings a little of 'I'll build a stairway to paradise' in the film 'The Aviator'. Apologies for the poor quality, I had to really compress this more than I would have liked to upload it.
I made a higher quality version at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_9GM0EbWI4

  • I would give ANYTHING to be able to have lived back then and been extremely rich and take in the club life like this!!

I don't care what anybody says...they KNEW how to party back then!!

This is my MOST favorite scene from the movie...this clip isn't all that great, but it is FANTASTIC to watch in the movie!

  • I keep watching this for the way he slides up to the microphone. :) If that isn't a cool entrance, I don't know what is. *loves on Rufus*

  • The band on the soundtrack is Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks and they play at Sofia's [221 W.46th St NYC] every Monday and Tuesday...come join the 1920s party !!

  • @Billcoxyz1956 I dunno... this wasn't that far from when Rudy Vallee sang all those high-pitched tunes with the megaphone. It might have even been at the same time (I'm no expert on Rudy Vallee). And Cole Porter was pretty big around this time, or in the process of being so. There were a lot of lisping closeted musical types back in the day. My only criticism is that he should sing, if anything, even MORE over the top and flamboyant. They thought they were invincible before the crash.

  • Tom and Daisy Buchanan were there, just out of sight

  • @gottalavmanga It's near the beginning when Howard Hughes is making Hells Angels.

  • I wasn't alive in the Hollywood of the 1930s but I really don't think Wainwright would have been singing in the Grove then - I mean no disprespect but his voice wouldn't have been vogue and he's waaay too light in the loafers stylistically for the period

  • what scene is this?

  • I love that Martin Scorsese filmed this segment using the color photography available in the 1920s--namely two-strip Technicolor. Everything taking place in the 20s-early 30s is in shades of red and blue (even the whites are very pale blues). When it moves into the late 30s-40s, it becomes the full 3-strip, over-saturated Technicolor.

  • Bad ASS Movie! MAHALO 2 YA!

  • i love this scene

  • I Love This Movie Thanks For The Upload !!!
