A lovely bunch of cycling facilities here, totally pointless. A cyclist has no problem getting past speed cushions. And i see these areas next to them as areas for pedestrians to cross, a place where they can easily be seen and where vehicles should be going slower. Putting a cycle facillity through it just seems crazy.

The second to last one, which has no dropped kerb, was the December 2010 cycling facility of the month http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.meg/wcc/facility-of-the-month/December2010.htm

  • @bike42363 Youtube have half implemented a new feature. It appears on new uploads and if you edit the details of a video you have uploaded you can see a drop down box you can change options in. At present you can't change any options but i suspect in the future it will have to do with rights about copyright and fair use etc..

  • What's the point in having that there if it's impossible to use? I might be a motorist but I like cyclists like you.

  • @sbrideau2000 That's my point. It's useless really and puts people in danger.

  • The facility with the high curb and the parking spot in front of it remind me of those hard to get at and hard to find spots off to the sides in Mario Kart you have to try to go to to collect extra gold coins.

  • I can't believe someone's been paid to come up with that...

  • Another problem here is that it pushes you out of the flow of traffic, and then once you're past the traffic narrowing, with potential dropped kerb, you could be frozen out due to being stuck behind a parked car.

  • i hate those bloody things, most have a dropped kurb but you can never tell if it does until your certain to hit it.

  • Pedestrian's point of view - Look at that cyclist riding round in circles, talking to himself... lol

  • Rediculous for the cyclist, agree totally there. Insane, needs to be re-thought by someone in the know.

  • Stupid!

  • I would not use them on principle.

I'd follow the Cyclecraft recommendation for road narrowings, and take the lane.

I doubt if they are even legal to use - has the footway been dedicated as shared use?

  • That's insane when you can see how wide the street is and then also see how wide the pavement (sidewalk) is too - ideal for a segregated cycle lane. All that 'road tax' we (cyclists) pay and not a bit of it put to good use!

  • That is so funny. I am glad that the condition of the road surface in Glasgow is so bad that all the stupid cycle strips and useless death-trap Advance Cycle coffin boxes are practically invisible to the naked eye. One fine day our superiors on the council will realise that bikes are not just for kids, their are not actually slow don’t hold up traffic and lots of operators are mostly quite competent enough to use the big boys roads.

  • I wont say Croydon council at it's finest...more interested in fiddling expenses than actually building something that does the job it's intended for, they may take out a lawsuit against me if i do :(

Oh to heck with it,i have no money so they can do their worst :)

The high kerbed one is a sure wheel buckler if not a neck breaker when you get thrown :0

  • amazing cycle lanes their xD also at the end i could of swarn that the path were the bus was looked like a shared pedestrian/cycle path
