Larissa Waters, interviewed on 30 Aug 2010 has indicated her support for a ban on live export. I wonder if this is what she envisioned?

I hope not.

  • If this was truly about animal welfare, the trade would never have been stopped. It would have been managed correctly. The complete ban is an epic fail by this government. There are more effective ways to manage and stop the cruelty to these poor animals.

  • This is not the fault of farmers, this is the fault of successive Australian governments who have supported this vile export trade with no ethical convictions. 86% of Australians want this trade to stop and I hope Labor is listening! But this needs to be phased out so that farmers do not suffer.

  • @FreedomForOrcas cont.. contributes to this industry should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. If you don't think live export is cruel, feel free to send your beloved pets over there to endure the horrors that these farm animals endure.

And by the way, more jobs can be created and a bigger industry can be built if the animals are slaughtered in Australia first. The government is just a backwards, twisted piece of shit that bends to the slightest amount of pressure. Shame on them.

  • This is just a pathetic attempt by a cruel industry that profits off suffering to promote their sob stories. The live export trade is a remnant of an outdated era that should've been banned long ago. These animals suffer horrendously on their journey to these countries, and then suffer MORE at the hands of people who don't give two shits about their wellbeing. Their eyes are poked out, they are jabbed, prodded, stabbed and their bones are broken. It's disgusting, and anyone who...

  • @pi550, 'one' video? Which 'one' are you talking about? The 'one' shot in 11 random abattoirs? Or the 'one' that shows sheep gasping for air in 40 degree heat, dying amongst dead carcasses & their own excrement? Or of several that shows sheep trussed & thrown in car boots? Which 'one' did you have in mind? Let's get something straight, this is not about what the industry is 'worth', the slave trade was 'worth' more, so is child trafficking, its no reason to keep profiting off misery of others.

  • @jtking2504 You cannot surely accept one video as the sole total information on an industry worth the amount this industry is worth..... surely you must expect more information.

Where is Julia and her team of merry men? Why have they NOT been over and provided this info to australia?

We don't even know if it is an accredited meatworks........

  • The Gillard government and the Greens don't give a damn about the people/families in the Northern Territory. They are supposed to represent all Australians not just the ones on the East coast. Is it just my imagination or does Larrissa Waters sound like Juliar Gillard?????? Do the people why are pushing for the ban to stay happy to have the cattle shot??? I think that is criminal!!!!

  • Why aren't Oakeshott and Windsor onto this major problem? They are supposed to be better at representing Regional Australians than the National Party... oh I forgot, they are too busy with working out the details of a carbon tax.

  • Let's ban this brutal trade forever. You can't continue to make a living out of cruelty. The same kinds of financial losses occurred when they banned slavery, that's no argument to keep it. Some things are more important than money, as hard as some might find it to grasp that concept.
