my striker 2 formula drivez me mad with its hot temps%)
MCP temp 53C, SPP temp. 67C *idle
and OC/core 2 duo E8500 @3800MHZ (default thermalright 120extreme) is only 33C *idle

first of all the new thermal compound prob did the temp lowering. 2nd south bridges NEVER get hot so its also a waste of time... just cleaning the surfaces and applying anything better than the crappy compound or thermal pads from the factory on the cpu and northbridge is all you need to do

You should use several sand papers, starting at around 500, then 800, then 1000 and last 1500. Also.. a sheet of glass is the best for lapping against and you should sand with the heatsink facedown and not face up like you sand. I mean the way you've done it still works obviously, but for best results you want to spend more time.

It's pretty easy but people will think you're a cutter when they see your wrists after you're done :P

do you have trouble installing that xigmatek with that large heatsink on the MB?
it's so hard to get it on there for me

does this apply to the rampage II extreme?

sure I don't see why not. I did this video with just the maximus formula and the rampage formula in mind but i can't see why it wouldn't work with the rampage II extreme as well. I would imagine that it should work for just about any motherboard so long as it has a northbridge heatsink and a heatsink backing on its flipped side.
