@redsoxfan423 I actually had lunch there once. The food was pretty good and the view was great if you were facing the tracks.

@CountVonBoco Yeah, you do have a point, but there's always a rare chance to catch 3 trains at one time, which is always good. Lol

Unfortunately, NS won't justify the cost of that project. When an area has even traffic flows as it is, with little or no bottlenecks, then there really is no reason to open up the second bore once more. The dispatcher, where ever it he/she/they are located seem to have a pretty effective system of managing trains through Galliztin tunnels. Anyway, to enlarge the second bore would cause for delays in the traffic control of the already double track bore while work was in progress.

@CountVonBoco Why enlargen it? Just limit it to general merchandise, coal & passenger use. That's what I never got about it...

Funny how the train squeaks by (::)

My favorite Rail Tunnels of all time.

The tunnel the 2 trains are in in the video, was once single track, and the other tunnel, was primarily the second bore. As you can tell, The railroad previous of Norfolk Southern (Ie: Conrail) Shut the tunnel down due to clearance restrictions. It'd be nice to see that tunnel in service again, but the amount of traffic through that area, and the cost to enlarge the tunnel for double stack cars, is too great to re-justify its use.

Whats the story with the tunnel to the left?
Just to the right of this shot on the "bluff" overlooking the tracks is the Tunnel Inn. It's right on top of all the action.
