The Foxp2 gene is involved in human speech and the human version contains two amino acid substitutions that make it distinct from the chimpanzee version—and also the mouse version. Wolfgang Enard, Svante Paabo, and colleagues asked what insights could be gained by studying effects of mice with humanized Foxp2 alleles.
