What is the difference between a Dietician and a Nutritionist?

To be a Dietician, you need a degree, an internship, and an examination administered by a third party. You will then be a registered Dietician.

A Nutritionist needs only a business card.

The advice that both give are very different. Keep watching to learn more about these professions.

  • Yes, but you can be considered a dietitian also. We worked hard to get our degrees to bring the safest, best advice to clients. I have had clients literally come back to me crying after seeing a "nutritionist" who gave them harmful advice or just sold them expensive useless items. I am not trying to downplay anyone's livelihood but when it comes to giving health/medical advice, it should be left to the professionals, such as yourself. Thanks for the comment. Best, Andrea.

  • So a registered nutritionist is a dietician? I'm doing a food science and nutrition degree currently, how is that different from a dietician then since although the title for my degree is nutrition but I do have the education background?

  • I practice as a nutritionist b/c I'm not interested in doing the internship but my bsc is in nutrition and dietetics, but true there are a lot of quacks out there calling themselves nutritionist
