A short video showing off some of the capabilities of Arma 2 and some of the dynamics of the group. Players are me, Raziaar, Vegeta and Krynn.
Everything the mortars do--the sighting, the range calculation, the graphics on the in-game map--is done via scripting. No mods necessary.
Distances in Arma are crucial--artillery usually fires from the terrain itself , so the projectile travel time must be calculated as well as the parabolic trajectory. So is the speed of sound: you'll see the detonations before you hear them.
Later on you'll see Raz using Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR), and a truck light up as it catches fire.
Lastly you'll see me performing mid-range sharpshooting. Wind and drop are of course calculated. I must first acquire a rough distance to the target using the Vector binoculars. The M110's default sighting is 300 meters, and my target was ~330, so I gave it a bit of a raise to 1 MOA over nominal. I aimed slightly to the right as earlier we were experiencing wind (you can see some debris float by the scope), however it must have been reduced or redirected on his end of the engagement zone. In the future I might try to run with a Kestral to get live wind readings.
Oh and btw my editing on this sucks sorry. First time doing a true blue HD video.
Damnit, I want to play with you guys so badly.>_<
