Honestly, it really did all start with a damn lamp trying to kill one person.

But Giygas was the one who ensured these tragedies carried on through the future, by corrupting and using Porky. Porky fled, corrupt. But seriously, Porky Minch meant NOTHING wrong, despite being a jerk before he was corrupted, he was just unlucky to be used by Giygas.

And I can see why Giygas used him. He was a close friend to Ness, and the fact that Porky had the motif to never give up and he was near the meteor

@Mingaggins The official Canon of the Mother series is that Gyiyg (not Giygas) was raised from George and destroyed himself and Mary later to be defeated by Ninten but quickly escaped before Ninten could finish him off where he found the Apple of enlightment and foresaw that Ness would attempt and destroy him, but as of course Giygas was destroyed but quickly Porky escaped through time causing the Mother 3 events where Lucas finally destroyed all evil and left Earth with only peace left, so Yes,
