Technicians in Orbiter Processing Facility-2 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida remove shuttle Discovery's forward reaction control system (FRCS) on March 22. The removal is part of Discovery's transition and retirement processing. The FRCS will be completely cleaned of all toxic fuel and oxidizer chemicals, which are used for the steering jet system while a shuttle is in orbit. The FRCS will then be put back into Discovery to help prepare the shuttle for future public display.

  • I will miss Discovery <3

  • Shouldn't they be wearing hard hats?

  • @drtracernum20 Really? I thought it was only two. I saw it in a 3D animated simulation, and in it there were only two seats, and it was being used for missions that looked just like Apollo 11.

  • It's sad to see Discovery go, it was all my all time fav shuttle. I think the space shuttle has fulfilled only half it's purpose because it could only do half of what was originally planned. It was supposed to be a long term space plane that would go on to open up a massive satellite operating business DONE, build a massive space station DONE, provide routine access to space HALF RIGHT and then finally go onto build a spaceship that would take people to the planets, FAIL.

  • @delmarian no its still obama's fault, bush cancelled the shuttle program to form the Constellation program to return to the moon and maybe mars or an asteroid, obama cancelled that.

  • Retiring this space craft is not a negetive action, it has completed its missions and done what it was expected to do. there is no point putting money into it now. We need to look to the future and the next stages in space exploration to further understand the universe.

  • This is so sad.... :(

  • @kingme99 My bad. Then i include bush in my previous statement.

  • @kingme99 Like Nixon did with terminating the Apollo moon flights after December 1972.

  • Thanks NASA! Sad to see the shuttle go, but I can't wait for the next spaceship(s) to take us further!
