This video is completely unedited, not normalized or anything, all the noise you hear is real. For more info on the R2-series astromech droid, go here:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R2-series_astromech_droid

In reality this is just an ordinary RC, not autonomous at all. There was a guy with a controller who you don't see for most of the video.

Also, while 'R2D2' is the popularized name for this type of robot, R2D2 refers to the specific robot (in the movies), in general this type of robot is referred to as an R2-series or just R2.

Watch the whole video before commenting about what it can and cannot do, it can move, the two arms can come out, the head can turn, the eye can change color from red to blue, and it can make a lot of the noises like in the movies. Also in this video, one of the drive wheels was not functioning properly, so he could only turn and not go forward / back.

  • All it did was stay in one place and do nothing. Spinning its head back and forth was not impressive. Wasted my time watching this vid and posting this comment...

  • @meelOOkintoo this is a really old video from years ago. Sadly I'm told one of his drive wheels had gone bad at the time so he couldn't do much (it's not my robot). Search youtube for "R2D2 vs. final fantasy" for a much better / current one of what this little guy can do now.
