  • That's pretty rare is it not, anti-cyclonic rotation?

  • Yes, quite a small proportion of tornadoes, funnel clouds, and wall clouds are anticyclonic. I don't remember the exact percentage, but it is small.

  • Note the cyclonic rotation lowering to the right. Sometimes the southern inflow gives enough shear for the anti-cyclonic rotation to get the wind speed for a full vortex. If the associated cold front is bringing wind straight from the N then the anti-cyclonic feature will take precedence over the main rotation and actually result in a touch down.
