Press conference: Israeli attack on humanitarian flotilla

A humanitarian flotilla on its way to Gaza to bring food and medicines to the population was attacked overnight by the Israeli army while in International Waters. The vessels were manned by unarmed civilians. Initial reports speak of 10 fatalities, other reports talk about 19.




Article 2 of the association agreement between the European Union and Israel states the centrality of respect for human rights and democratic principles. The European Parliament and the other European institutions must take a strong position on this attack on human rights in the world in breach of international law.




The Members of the European Parliament that visited Gaza in a delegation in January will hold a press conference in the EP press room today at 14:00.
