Narrator: ...they could have increased their chances of winning a VT gold with this high difficulty VT.
Gu Zheng: I could stick my dismount 2 or 3 times out of 4, 5 attempts in a week.
Narrator: But regrettably, she was injured at a competition after she was selected for the Athens Olympic team, thus prevented her from participation and the plan of introducing this newly developed VT was abandoned. Later, with Gu Zheng's retirement, these recorded data became our memories...

Narrator: ...men's VT was proposed by men's headcoach, Huang YuBing, in 2003.
Gu Zheng: Xiao Peng Ge (big brother) was doing very well with his VT, Coach Huang and our coach were discussing the possibility of women gymnasts working on the difficulty of the men's. And they developed a women's version for me.
Narrator: In actuality, Gu Zheng had successfully learned this VT before the Athens Olympics, basically. If the Chinese WAG team had decided to execute this VT at the Olympics...

Narrator: ...her name, or, even her face, but she's the first gymnast to have trained on the Cheng Fei Vault. (shows footage 6 years ago) This was Gu Zheng at the training hall 6 years ago, the VT she's working on was the one that we call the Cheng Fei Vault today. It was a simplified version of the Li Xiao Peng Vault. The difference was, the Li VT had a 900 degree twist (2 and a half) and the Cheng VT had a 540 twist (1 and a half). Wow, I knew she had a Yurchenko double but I didn't know she was also training the Cheng. She said she'd try it 4-5 times a week and maybe get 2-3 to her feet... didn't seem like good odds. I guess if she was in Athens she was going to try it and hope for the best, but I suspect she was never as secure with this vault as Cheng Fei was.
I wonder why she didn't do the tucked version (Khorkina II), which was worth 9.9, and much easier to get around.

moved to tears...especially for her last several sentences

Narrator: ...endings are, but never the same...Gu Zheng feels that coaching is a great career for her, as she can extend her dreams to her kids.
Gu Zheng: If I could bring my gymnasts up to the stages of the Olympics, I should be so content...

(shows Cheng Fei at 2005 Worlds)
Narrator: ...In 2005, Cheng Fei had this VT presented flawlessly before the judges and had it named after her, at the Melbourne World Championship.
Gu Zheng: Yes, I watched it, I was so happy, really. Em...although I couldn't do it, but I was truly happy to see Cheng Fei did it for China.
Narrator: In every competition, the limelight falls on the people on the stage; while there are so many that contributes with their hard work and persistence, the...
