  • @Jiffxx Yes -another- step further back. I meant Larry was the first bassist to have a -released- recording with the Heat.

  • Another step:

Wikipedia says the first bassist to record with Canned Heat was Stu Brotman:

" Producer Johnny Otis recorded the band's first (unreleased) album in 1966 with the ensemble of Hite, Wilson, Frank Cook (drums), Henry Vestine (guitar), and Stu Brotman (bass); but the record was not actually released until 1970 when it appeared as Vintage Heat, released by Janus Records."

  • A step further: Larry's the 1st bassist to -record- w/the Heat. Mark Andes (Spirit Heart Firefall Jo Jo Gunne), preceded him. Fito joined for "Boogie With..." Harvey for "Future Blues". i wasn't at the Waukegan show, but I wouldn't be surprised if you're essentially correct: Larry often leaves Heat tours for better gigs w/Tom Waits or Kim Wilson. He'd play the Greek in Berkley, (virtually a local gig for them), but refuse to fly to Waukegan IL. I live in Chicago & -I- refuse Waukegan gigs ;-)

  • Actually The Only Original Member is Larry Taylor The Rest Joined Later!

  • Ha, thats a complete lie, moron i'm in the band...3 original members not 2, Larry Taylor, Harvey Mandel, and Fito=3. first lie, Second one, CH played 30 minutes, i have a copy of the show. Third lie, Country Joe is far from bitter, just intelligent...a fact thats obviously over your head. Oh, Heat not heet...dude. Get a real life.

  • i saw this show at the genese theatre in waukegan il. canned heet opened before the whole crowed came in. then they jammed out for almost an hour. only the drummer and lead guitarist were there from the old days. they played so long , all the other bands had to play short sets. country joe from the fish was the m.c. and he seemed quite bitter.
