@fenderboy88 I agree that people should be free to perform acts that hurt themselves, but only in so far as they don't hurt the rest of society. Yes, I agree that it's likely alcohol is inherently more dangerous than marijuana, but that just indicates that alcohol should also be illegal! Not only does marijuana cause aggression, which directly harms people, it causes mental illness, cancers, cancers, all which increase the medicare costs for everyone. Is that fair?
@Captainmop it is not up to politicians what a person can or cant put into thier own body,in a free society people have the right to not only choose responsibly but also choose irresponsibly,if government keeps prohibiting thing they dissaprove of then NOBODY is free.
If marijuana was legal along with other drugs the product would become boring and it would take away the incentive for criminals to start a black market and also people wouldnt be put into jail for aquiring drugs .
@fenderboy88 Also with alcohol, I actually believe alcohol should also be made illegal. It's a horrible, horrible drug that kills huge amounts of people. There's a lot of evidence to suggest it's inherently more dangerous than LSD and perhaps also Marijuana. With Portugal, I think that situation can't be compared with Australia. Portugal likely had more drug use prior, which is a factor to consider when considering the benefits.
@fenderboy88 There's a different social attitude towards alcohol than drugs. The legalisation of things which aren't socially acceptable encourages the idea that they're acceptable. More importantly, there would be a dramatic increase in the supply of the drug in society, as drug stores would have to stock up. With marijuana, this would cause demand to increase. Whereas with alcohol, there was little control of supply. Also other reasons, but I have limited characters.
@Captainmop Im not endorsing drug use and i think its tragic that people destroy thier lives with drugs but prohibition only creates a black market and pushes up the prices of drugs even more.If drugs were legal then it would be harder for criminals to compete against low priced regulated drugs.
When FDR ended Alcohol prohibition crime rates actually went down and bootleggers dissapeared. You have to realise that Governments cant change human nature.
@Captainmop You say ''drugs cause harm to the consumer but you fail to realise that alcohol is also a DRUG whether you choose to see that or not, alcohol haas killed actually more people combined ,even more so than Heroin and Cocaine,in America about 450000 people actually died from tobacco and alcohol .
Criticism of ''drug prohibition'' is growing on both sides in fact conservative economists like Milton Friedman warned about the dangers of prohibition way back in 1972 .
@Captainmop Thats a load of crap coming from fear mongering prohibitionists who dont know the FULL facts about marijuana,in Portugal all drugs were decriminalised which not only resulted in drug use coming down but HIV rates also dropped so decriminalisation works but legalisation would also work and history also tells us that because legalisation instead of prohibition works.

The Greens don't support drug use! Why does everyone think they do? Have you not read their policies?
