@formulaonemad WRONG AGAIN! Nodules must have been there from early September but we don't hear the effects til Los Angeles (Oakland a week earlier is oddly good)
Yeah, he started changing his singing style around 1979 (his timbre got slightly deeper from 1977/8, and got stronger), and each year it evolved! Songs like Rocket Man sounded way different from 1979-onwards compared with the classic era versions! If only Elton didn't over-do the touring, he'd still have his normal voice (or at least wouldn't get nodules then surgery)!
@GregsynthWizard probably not. I actually don't think the surgery changed his voice up, per say. As you can tell by the recordings in the late 70s, his delivery of singing changed quite a bit. Little by little, a lot of the classic songs were starting to sound different with this "new voice." He was starting to become more dependent on the low registers than the high registers. He can still do falsettos - but I don't think he gets a vocal trainer to help him retain this skill.

@GregsynthWizard Thanks! It was an awesome concert and we were really closed to the stage. Do you know what the venue was?
