RAINSONG WILDLIFE SANCTUARY has rescued several anteaters in the past few years.
This baby anteater was brought to RAINSONG when its mother was killed by dogs.
altho ANTEATERS ARE NOT POACHED FOR THEIR FLESH OR FUR,
their populations have declined drastically in the past decade, due to development and deforestation on the edge of wilderness areas.
People's unrestrained dogs kill the anteaters quite often.
ALSO, the anteater is commonly killed crossing roads,
SADLY, people don't take the time to slow down to let them cross.
ANTEATERS are kin to the sloths, and move quite slowly.
Their only defense is their one large claw.
They have no teeth, since their diet is termites and certain types of ants.
We have received anteaters in the rescue center who had their hands cut off, and were left alive to die a slow agonizing death.
Their one big claw is used in jewelry for TOURISTS.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY SOUVENIRS THAT INCLUDE ANIMAL PARTS WHEN YOU VISIT COSTA RICA OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY !!!
LOVE OUR MOTHER EARTH AND ALL HER BEINGS !

  • @SlayeroftheSky Heh, I just picked up on the sudden craze. Considering to write a giant anteater in as a pet in my sci-fi story. Shouldn't be a problem about legality issues considering my characters don't live on Earth and its a hundred years in the future. *shrug*
