CCR Senior Staff Attorney Maria LaHood talks about her client Maher Arar and the U.S. governments responsibility for his torture in a Syrian prison. Maher Arar is a Canadian citizen who was on his way home to Toronto after a summer vacation with his family when he was detained by US officials at JFK airport and sent to a Syrian prison where he was tortured for over a year. This happened under the Bush administrations extraordinary rendition policy, but neither the courts nor the Obama administration have since acknowledged any wrongdoing or compensated him for his suffering. Mr. Arar did not commit any crime and the Canadian government has both apologized to him and paid him 13 million Canadian dollars in compensation. CCR has petitioning the US Supreme Court to hear his case; find out what is at stake. Learn more at http://ccrjustice.org/arar

i can't believe how people in the U.S. accept this misuse of executive power. Hurray for Canada for recognizing this gross wrongdoing.
