  • Hey guys. Thanks for all the support. We haven't seen each other lately, so that's the reason for the lack of videos. We will be posting soon. Thanks!

  • @TheHogking1 are you referring to the bleach?

  • Thanks!

  • You could've bettered your yeild if you decanted the stuff more carefully, and used a fractionating column. I have never tried the haloform reaction: I have 4 ounces of chloroform, don't use it often, and don't need any more. But shouldn't it be kept in an amber glass bottle to prevent decomposition?

  • @ScienceHideout

The decantation did not affect yield at all, I did not pour out the lower layer. It was surprisingly easy to see the lower layer from above, and it was easy to avoid pouring out chloroform.

I don't really see how a fractionating column could have improved yield much. Can you clarify? The distillation was performed mainly to remove any dissolved solids and water. Not much water would have come over at 60-64 C.

  • @ScienceHideout

Also, we will probably wrap the chloroform bottle in duct tape or something equivalent to prevent phosgene formation. We don't have any amber glass bottles at this time.

  • @AlChemicalLife

    Sort of, yeah.

  • @98JMA so phosgene will be elimnated and u dont have to wory about it

  • @RealChemLabs i thought when u add the ethonol it wont produce phosgene eneymore due to it attcking it and turning it in to safer gasses.

  • @98JMA

Also, how do you know they used veg oil?

  • @thegodofchemistry

You can use pretty much any oil you want as long as the boiling point is appropriate.

  • @98JMA i tought that you used mineral oil or paraffin oil

  • @thegodofchemistry

    As a heating bath.

  • why did oyu have vegtible oil

  • great yield huh
