"To Each His Own" was recorded by The Platters in February of 1959, but the song was withheld from release for over a year after the four male members of this great singing group were arrested on drug and prostitution charges while performing in Cincinnati. When the song was finally released, it peaked at #21 on the pop charts in October of 1960, but by that time all of the legal problems with which the group was dealing came to a head, and the hit-making Platters of the '50's had disbanded. The song itself was written by the songwriting team of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans in 1946, and Eddy Howard & His Orchestra had the first #1 hit with it in that year. The Livingston/Evans team would go on to win three Academy Awards for their songs, "Buttons and Bows", "Mona Lisa", and "Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera Sera)".
