Greedy White-Trash Global Warming Deniers

Most global warming deniers probably know they're full of s--t on some level and they don't deserve civil treatment. Their ilk has been lying for decades about a wide range of environmental issues (acid rain, ozone depletion, water pollution, logging, fishery quotas, endangered species, tobacco risks, etc.). Global warming is just their latest & greatest denial play. They've already had far too much air-time, given their weak levels of expertise and refusal to accept science at face value. "Free speech" of that sort has interfered too long with critical science policy. Arguments should be weighted by hard-earned knowledge, not just how loudly someone screeches to a gullible audience.

As long ago as 1859, scientists had a solid concept of CO2's potential effects (e.g. John Tyndall). Over the next century there were various debates over the exact greenhouse mechanism, but no major denials of physics until the Industrial-Right got wind of the situation and reacted as they always have to environmental warnings. Their devious strategy is to pretend that the science can never be settled and can thus never be taken seriously. See "The Denial Machine" (2006) for a good summary of that tactic.

Don't be distracted by the deniers' superficial credentials or political offices. Approach them as you would any street criminal (or white collar thug). These ingrates are sneering at a major man-made threat to the only life-sustaining planet we've got, and it's mostly about their longstanding, paranoid hatred of taxation and regulation. They think the whole universe revolves around their personal lives, as if the laws of physics cam be steered by protest.

Still, you have to wonder, if they like oil, coal and gas so much, wouldn't they want to stretch supplies as long as possible and not squander it with gluttony? In some cases, their naive belief in "The Rapture" explains their haste to deplete whatever they can grab. In other cases they are clearly just greedy. There's plenty of precedent for that in the human race.

Considering the growing evidence for AGW and its potential consequences (many are already in play) it would be fair to sue deniers for mitigation costs, citing all the time they've wasted confusing the VOTING public with this phony "debate." At least 97% of legitimate climatologists are in agreement about modern Man's role in climate change. The goons who originally politicized the issue are trying to flip reality and put it all on the scientists, e.g. the "ClimateGate" ruse. That level of dishonest cynicism is a crime in itself.
