Clippy for me - learned to make them in Leeds in the fifties from my Lincolnshire grandmother. Proggy was when you used a long strip and a sort of stitching action to keep pushing it through - I have a couple of punches for making proggy rugs. Hooky you pull rather than push and then knot - like the ones you can buy wool for ready cut - not that anyone every spent money on making rugs in our family - no potato sack or old coat was safe

@Spacetwerp I think it depends where you come from, our family are from Shields and we call them clippy mats.
