Hamster Power Plant

The science fair project for a hamster loving second grade girl. Chestnut the hamster runs on his wheel (with a little help) which turns a 9V electric motor which lights a red LED.

I'm sorry but I am wondering if the gravitational force of the hamster is larger than the resistance of the generator acting on the rubber band thus drag force of the rotating wheel, if that's the case the hamster will not be able to drag the wheel or rotate smoothly

@spjohn18 Thanks for the comment. The tension in the rubber band was too great because the rubber band was a bit too small. Getting a drive belt that was big enough and still had enough grip was the most difficult part and we never found a really good one.
