Song: 1969
Band: The Stooges
Album: The Stooges
Year: 1969
Genre: Proto-Punk
Lyrics:
Well it's 1969 OK
all across the USA
It's another year for me and you
Another year with nothing to do
well It's another year for me and you
Another year with nothing to do
Now, last year I was 21
I didn't have a lot of fun
And now I'm gonna be 22
I say oh my and a boo-hoo
yeah now I'm gonna be 22
I say oh my and a boo-hoo
It's 1969 OK
all across the USA
It's another year for me and you
Another year with nothing to do
Another year with nothing to do
It's 1969
1969 1969 1969 1969 baby
And it's 1969 bayyyyyyybee

I remember hearing this song in the year of its title. As you can imagine, it sounded like nothing I'd ever heard. I once read an interview in which Iggy said the inspiration for his sound was the sound of machines in the factories. The progressive radio stations didn't like it, but for me, it was love at first note.

"last year i was 21, i didn't have a lot of fun... now I'm gonna be 22, i say oh, my and 'a Boo Hoo..." i pulled this song up because i was thinking how shitty my 21st birthday was last year, and it dawned on me I'll be 22 in three months. needless to say i cringed. even though it clearly says 1969, it still relevant and the 69 can shift meaning, cause we're all getting screwed no matter what year or age, another year, another birthday. and still nothing to fucking do. boo, hoo. 1969 baby.

I knew about the Stooges, but never really heard them til one day I heard "I Wanna be Your Dog" on the radio. I thought it must have been something from the early 80s. I went and looked the song up on the computer and boy was I wrong. Way ahead of their time. Love this album!

Just because it's old doesn't mean it wasn't (or isn't still) subversive. Louis Armstrong was the rebel trendsetter in '26. And his stuff with the Hot Five and Hot Seven from back then is well worth listening to. (Unfortunately there are no records of artists from 43 years before THEN.) Every generation, if it's lucky, has rule-breakers who change assumptions and redefine what's acceptable in art and music.

how many people have become huge that lack talent? tons. half the huge acts right now have to rely on computers for their "talent." this was too out there when they came out. youre a moron.

If you listened to a 43 year old song in 1969, then you'd be listening to something from 1926! Just think about that! LOL

Being in punk band, playing crappy was a prerequisite. Proof, The Stooges started it all. Actually, the playing is damn good on this song. They were real sloppy live, though. But it was about the emotion.

My 21st last year was pretty shitty as well. Probably the worst of my life. My girlfriend at the time ditched me, left me and then kicked me out on the street in a really bad part of town. Only after she kicked my ass first. My girl was an amazon. All I gotta say is fuck it
