For sprinting, the new technique is the straight arm style because it catches more water and thus is a faster style. However, it is only used in the 50/100 because it uses up a lot of energy. Hence why the high elbow technique is best for 200+ and maybe even the 100.

I know this video is old now but I do think that if he was more patient with his stroke he would of got more power from it

His turn and breakout strokes need a little bit more work, he could have dropped another quarter to half second no doubt. I really like the style of flutter kick he has, very fluid and mimicks the underwater dolphin turn.

the woman have so much leighter arms than men so they are accually able to swim a 1500m with straight arms.

this 17 year old i know went 25 before
Im a swimmer, im doing about 28sec on 50m.
My question is, do you swim with straight arms or are having a angle from the elbow ?

Only know one case of what you could call straight (underwater) armstroke: Anthony Ervin, gold medalist in Sydney. The user yusik has some excellent videos.
On the other hand, straight arm recovery is now very popular.

Really I think he;s so fast due to explosiveness, its not any crazy technique like Popov, hes just really agressive when sprinting.

It could be. Notice his dolphin kicks. It's pure fast twitch fibers.
