The Underwater Search and Marine Unit is made up of officers from Cheshire Police and five other police forces in the north-west and Wales. The unit dives to depths of up to 50 metres to search for missing people, weapons, stolen good and submerged vehicles. They also have a range of other duties, including marine security searches. Their remit is to search areas that other police search teams cannot reach, such as lakes, rivers, marshland, ponds, canals, sewage drains and the sea, up to 12 miles from shore.
