  • Berezovsky simply rushes through over half of this piece. This piece isn't a race or a show off piece, there is an incredible amount of depth in it. Plenty of polyphony and complex harmonies that can't be blurred over by going too fast. The pianist has relax and enjoy it!

The performance is quite crisp, but the interpretation is shallow in many way.

  • What's wrong with you all? This is a fine performance. Not my favorite one, but he ABSOLUTELY doesn't rush it - it's a normal tempo, sometimes really slower than other great interpretations. And it has a beautiful tone. At 8:00 the scales and arpeggios passage doesn't have so much nuances (the following chords passage has), but it is exciting, it is a matter of choice. You don't have to praise this performance, but I absolutely don't think it's bad.

  • I agree that the overall pace is hurried....... the opening bars are not at all musical..... he must have been in a hurry to get for a date.............

Rubinstein and Zimerman do an awesome job on this piece........ Richter's is perhaps to explosive but is surely wonderful

  • @ETermplor It's not my favorite interpretation (that would be still RubinStein), however he doesn't rush here. I've seen much faster tempi (Richter) and much slower ones. Berezovsky will always be more "muscular". Nothing is blurred here, I''ve seen much muddier inpretations (Helene Tysman e.g.). I prefere this to weak and "salon"-esque performances.

  • @ETermplor absolutely correct , compare it with the performances of lugansk or pollini than you can feel what is a correct interpretation - beresowsky is wunderfull for medtner or ohter russions butnot for chopin , at least for me

  • lol he makes this sounds like the transcendental etudes

  • He TRULY hates Chopin's music, doesn't he ?

  • i tried to like the performance because he is B.B, but i could not. he seems he doesn't want to play the piece there, especially the sloppy scales and chords after 8:00 to 9:00. it looks he needs a masterclass on that piece

  • @Elicgt

BB was joking when he said he 'hated' Chopin!

  • This is truly a disaster. He's got to give it up. Compare with the peerless Bunin.

  • Too much pedal - too much banging - too fast and not melodic enough - where is the harmony? He was better pianist before.
