Old Star-Trek -- unless it's Tuesday. Copied shamelessly from another YouTuber.

  • The facial expression of Kirk from 1:16 to 1:18 is priceless. Kirk pulls off a believeable "Does he really believe this hogwash?" face. GOOD acting.

  • Kirk said that being dealt another Jack would be grounds for disqualification. Then he actually does deal another Jack. But, desperate to keep the ruse going, Kirk tries to BS further. This is priceless.

Kirk and crew managed to escape from incompetant guards all too often on this show.

  • @UglySean Because the Iotian culture is based around that book about 1920's gangsters that another starship left. They must have adopted Earth days from what they read in the book.

  • Actually all card games are as clear as this. Tuesday? Why are earth weekdays used?

  • i might try and play this

  • This is so funny. A perfect piece of trekkdom.

  • @binky011 It helps to remember here that Kirk is making up the entire thing as he goes. It was virtually inevitable that he was gonna screw up, and making the guy lose might not be the best way to keep him hooked. Wouldn't surprise me if the writers stuck that in there intentionally to point up how nonsensical the whole thing was. Plus of course it continues the Incompetent Guard Tradition without which no TV adventure series whould be able to go past a couple episodes.

  • @xxCostumexx The scene as a whole is funny, but the two jacks thing is only funny if you are willing to believe that _no one_ in the entire room remembers that Kirk just said 3 minutes earlier that another jack would be the _worst possible_ card to get. Don't get me wrong, I love the scene for the most part -- it's just that one line really, really grates on me and destroys my suspension of disbelief.

  • @binky011

Thats the point... it's supposed to be funny.

You know, I could swear he ad-libbed that entire scene :\

  • The question is...is Spock more annoyed with the idiocy of the guard or the idiocy of Kirk...

  • Yes, the "you don't want a jack"/"Another jack! How lucky!" thing always annoyed the hell out of me. Especially as it was just so pointless -- you'd think the writers would have at least used it to up the tension as Kirk's BS started to unravel.
