http://www.oldlongisland.com Part 3 of 3 - Winfield Hall - The Woolworth Estate. Best viewed full screen to allow pausing and reading of text. Pairing a 1925 auction document and readily available photos I've compiled a companion video to the Bob Ghent Video production. Winfield Hall is one of the last remaning Long Island Gold Coast estates. Built for Frank Winfield Woolworth of dimestore fame. Winfield Hall was buit in 1916 after Woolworth's original home burned. Cass Gilbert, who designed the Woolworth Building in New York ,is often wrongly named as the architect. Winfield Hall was designed by Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert who designed many notable Gold Coast estates that now sadly are gone. Thanks and enjoy.

  • Where are the orginal furnishings?

  • @catghost7

There was a auction in November 1975. According to Monica Randall in her book "WINFIELD' LIVING IN THE SHADOW OF THE WOOLWORTHS "all of Woolworth's prized possessions were sold for a mere fraction of their worth." Theirs a chapter in the book that describes the whole thing. It also mentions a CBS newscaster(Carol Martin) filming at auction. You have to wonder if someone has archival footage?

  • Remake of the classic Joan Crawford "Mildred Pierce" is being shot at Winfield Hall for a February 2011 HBO mini-series.

  • Hi, where were you able to find the floor plans of the house? Thank you.

  • @goobleglob

1st and 2nd floor are pictured in the beginning of part three. I've yet to see 3rd floor or basement plans.

  • Can you ensure that when buying a place so old, I would have no problems with ghosts?

  • only a gay man can have that kind of taste. She must have found a love letter to her husband when her face cracked

  • Wonder when the house was sold in 1925 did all the furnishings and paintings, etc. go with the new owner?

  • The video is nicely done, but this mansion is pretty plain compared to many other mansions built during the golden age! Not say that it isn't built on a grand scale, just the design and layout is pretty awkward. it just lacks the WOW factor, like the Biltmore estate, Whitemarsh and Lynnewood Hall, Rough Point, The Breakers, Rosecliff, etc... give.

The interiors are nice, but I just LOVE!!!! That foyer with the ascending staircase, for me that is just magnificent !!!

all in all, if I had to c

  • simply increadible

  • Are You Allowed To Visit There ? Like Just Walk Through The Yard During The Day ?
