The King''s Mistress by Sandy Blair

The Kings Mistress, inspired by real events, takes place in 1285 Scotland and revolves around the dangers of lies.

Britt MacKinnon, Captain of the King's Guard, is not a happy man when he is ordered to the Border to fetch back to court the king's favorite mistress. Scotland's future is at stake for want of an heir. King Alexander's three children by a previous marriage have all died and he recently remarried in hopes of producing a new heir Scotland desperately needs to keep Scotland from falling into the hands of England's Edward I. But thanks to his dalliances with his favorite mistress the queen has yet to conceive.

Heroine Genny Armstrong is more than a little upset with her talented identical twin who ran from court after discovering she's pregnant with the king's bastard. Knowing her sister's life won't be worth a farthing should their new barren Queen discover this, Genny, a talentless country lass of strong opinion, has no choice when Britt arrives but to claim to be her talented and flighty sister, the King's mistress. Her intention is to avoid the king until she can prove to the Queen's court she's not pregnant then make good her escape.

Lies multiply as passions ignite, in the dead of night the king plunges over a cliff to his death and soon hearts, lives and Scotland's very destiny are at stake.
