don't use type-r's as an example unless you're a ricer, hold it at high revs too long and it will blow. RX7s are rotary, which can rev high longer due to the fact that they're a completely different type of engine, and im not sure on the cuppacinno.
And the issue is generally the bearings, not the rods and pistons. A major issue with a lot of engines at high revs is lack of the proper oil pressure, so you're starving the bearings for oil. This causes the engine to spin a bearing.
-
still depends on the car. some engines are built to rev to very high revs like suzuki cuppacinnos, rx7s, type r's ect.
rebuilding the internals of an sr20 or ka24 could warrant for high revs for longer periods, it all comes down to the materials used and most importantly, your cam and ecu. a proper ecu and racing cams could greatly increase how your fuel is being burned.

He should of shifted.
-
yeah, but that wasnt a long period of time

Ok, sure. I'll tell you a story about my 300ZX. The sunvisor says "Do not race the engine at high revolutions for longer than one minute."
Another thing, the reason limiters are bad is because you're cutting spark and causing fuel to detonate, which can burn the pistons. Its bad for ANY car, no car can handle it for long periods.
-
only if your car cant handle it
-
The limiter is bad dude.
