Solid punch, on this cool piece of machinery from the late 80's.

  • is there a wya to read midi files, like make the remapping, voice by voice? channel by channel

  • @rickybeann Haven't figured out how yet, but you should be able to slave it to another sequencer and record it.

  • How do u load p17- p32.?!!

  • @jeremyfletcher51 You can't. Then you're forced to use an extra w30, just as Liam Howlett did when he recorded his first two albums for The Prodigy. In this way he could get access to 32 channels.

  • Hi there. Was this all done on one W30? I thought the memory was very small and you wouldn't be able to fit much on?

How easy is the sequencer to use? A substitute for an MPC perhaps?

  • Yes totally 100 percent W-30, explains the solid thickness ;) The memory is very small (1 Double Density-disk fills the entire bank) but it's used to the maximum! You may resample some audio in half the bitrate, no problem at bass.. But here I have also done so with the vocals (long samples) in order to make room for everything. Can be devastating in some cases but sounds pretty cool in this kind of production, however.

You can not loop with the sequencer, but otherwise it's fairly initiative.

  • hi there - noticed a few people asking questions about this. i used to spend hours (weeks!!!) on this, and i still remember it better than the name of my gramma. I'm happy to answer new questions. Nice TX81z bass sample!

  • I dispute that they sound crap... crap if you're used to the lifeless "perfection" of soft-samplers which havent been run through a rack-and-a-half of gear perhaps.

  • @lvpv

Sorry to hear they have stolen your W-30 mate :( my number says ZA48780.

They are not that hard to get. Try and search for them. Some people have NO idea what they got in the attic.

I am willing to load your disks (data and sound) play and record them if you like?

    PM me :)

  • There is more than meets the Eye. The Roland w30 has much more to offer if you take the effort.

  • Eh, I bought one today and the systemdisk doesn't work.

But the floppies I got with it are like, 20 years old, could that be the problem?

  • There are only 16 channels :-)
