I wanted to take a few minutes today to talk about Leadership and your Online Marketing Business. The most successful marketers online are the ones that follows the trails and follow the success of business owners that have succeeded off line, in brick and mortar businesses. The ideas are the same, the concepts are the same, it's just the venue has changed to take you business online to make money on the internet.
What made me think about this is that I attended a training event this weekend, Simple4 presented by Bob the Teacher-Bob Jenkins. He puts on phenomenal trainings if you ever have the chance to attend.
One of the presenters, Tony Laidig, also known as the Public Domain Expert talked about story telling and how important it is in growing your online business. He mentioned, and this is so relevant for online businesses to make money, there are those out there that are basically scammers and they are just looking for a quick buck; then you have those internet business owners who are involved in a REAL business and working to establish a client base and establishing a relationship with your customers.
This second group finds the most success on the internet.
The reason that they do, I believe, is because of their intent behind what they are doing. The scammers are just trying to make a quick buck: they want to get you in there, sell you something and then be on their way. That's fine, but that's not a sustainable business model.
I want to share a book with you that I'm reading right now: Leadership and Self Deception
They cover these points: In the Box thinking is basically when everything your do is "all about YOU"; Out of the Box thinking is where you understand that your clients, customers, partners and employees are human with their own wants, needs, desires and fears.
Out of the box leaders don't look at the people they work with as big dollar signs. It's important to keep that concept in mind and I encourage you to read the book.
Now, you may be wondering: If I'm all "touchy feely" is that just about being all "warm and fuzzy" (and getting walked all over...)
It's not!
Whether you approach your team with a hard approach or soft approach, you can expect high standards and you can get the same results. The difference is in the motivation and the willingness of the people you work with to help you succeed.
Here's the perfect example:
During a football game this weekend between the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos, the quarterback for the Broncos wasn't doing so hot, so they brought out the 3rd string quarterback, Tim Tebow.
There was a very obvious shift in the tempo of the game. Those receivers WANTED to catch the passes thrown by Tebow...they wanted to see him succeed. It was so obvious!
That kind of motivation is what you want in your online business as well. That's type of motivation is what is going to help set you apart from the crows and continue to make money and be successful for years and years to come. You want people working with you that want to see you succeed; this happens when you genuinely see them as human and not just tools for you.
